Do you know how to solve this Legacy GT Problem?
Description of problem
At first I thought that it was a motor whose bushings had gone bad, because it is as shrill as that, and very loud. At least as loud as the Stereo in the car turned to 10. It first happened at passing speed. At that time the tempature outside was in the 30s. I thought that it might have something to do with the fan for the climate control. But it continued to happen with all the climate control buttons turned OFF. It seems related to RPM. I can induce the sound most of the time in 4 gear at 3300 RPM or more. It might happen not instantaneously. NO WARNING LIGHTS EVER CAME ON OR FLASHED WITH THE SOUND. The sound seems to be coming from the middle of the dash, around the climate control to the right side of the car. It is not directly in front of the driver. My guess is that it is vaccum related and is some sort of PVC check valve. Seen similar vaccum problems make weird and annoying noises. I would now say the sound is might be described as a loud blowing of a toy trumpet. I have also notice that this RPM range at which the noise happens is getting LOWER and LOWER. At first it was happening over 80 MPH, then at 76 MPH then at 72 MPH, 70 MPH but rarely happens as low as 65. Cruise control does not need to be on for this to happen. (Actually the very first time that it happened, I was showing off the car to my 93 year grandfather, and took the car up to 100, and it starting buzzing, or squealing at 100MPH)(I didn't tell the dealer that) I had to listen to this noise for over an hour as my son and I drove back from Washington over Spring Break last week. Right now the Legacy is at the dealership. Has been there a couple of days already. They are telling me that it is door molding, and once I get a new piece of door modeling, everything will be fine. I find that surprising, but I hope that they are right. That makes no sense to me. Cmotif <>< |

The problem has been solved after a few times to the dealership. The inside of the windshield was scratched, so it was replaced. The noise was coming from a windshield that was not well sealed. It took them 3 or 4 times to put enough sealant in it.
The car is all sorted out now. That is the only problems that we have had with it since new in January. Love the car. Took a great long trip with it to San Diego and back this summer. Was AWESOME. Cmotif <><
