seat belt laws

ok well i got a 1979 el camino i no im going to get poled over becuz of the stuipd belt it is on the hips only and im wondering if i need to update it to the 3 point from the 2 point i live in il if that helps if anyone can HELP THANKS

I believe federal laws apply to this situation. I understand that if that is what came in the car originally, then those are the legal belts you can use in the car. I had a 1976 Ford van that had just the lap belts, and I loved to fool the cops during roadblocks to check for mandatory seat belt usage. They would ask why I wasn't wearing my belt, and I would love to see the expression on their face when I showed them. Here they thought they were going to write me a ticket, but when they saw I was wearing my belt, they realized they couldn't.

Hi, i rember a time a time when i got pulled over for a seat belt, problem was it was a 1960 chev beliar, problem was they never came with any, at lest my model didnt have any, i even looked for the holes or plugs, none too be found, he just walked away and said have a nice day Everett.
