67 Pontiac Bonneville Wheel Bearings
What's the estimate for repacking of wheel bearings for front cost on 67 Pontiac Bonneville? Is it something fairly easy but laborious or it's complicated? Does it require special tools? If this is a feasible job that can be completed without a lift, right in the driveway, please enlighten me. Can someone simplify the order of how this job is done, please(what are the steps from start to finish). Thanks!

Re: 67 Pontiac Bonneville Wheel Bearings
Repacking wheel bearings is quite easy for an experienced person to do. The trick is that its an important safety -related item, so its best left to the experts unless you know what you are doing.
An incorrect job can lead to a catastrophic accident due to seized wheel bearings or the wheel coming off the car. I suggest you get a service manual for your car and you look up the basic procedure on YouTube before attempting this. Repacking bearings is generally done at the same time as relining the brakes, so a good mechanic will include it in a complete brake job. Part of the repacking procedure involves cleaning and inspecting the bearings for wear and defects which may require new bearings. I would say a good mechanic should charge about 1 hour for just repacking the bearings, or about $100. Typically new grease seals will be required. New bearings (if required) would be extra money |
