gunk on paint

I just bought a 92 s10 blazer off a friend.... its white. The paint has a lot of black residue on it... all over. Any easy suggestions on how to get it off rather than scrubbing for hours? Its some pretty stubborn stuff! It will come off, but u gotta scrub like ur life depends on it just to get one little section done.

Probably took care of this already, but, if the black residue is tar, or similar, try some Liquid Wrench, or WD-40. Try it in an inconspicuous place first. Spray it on a rag and then wipe gently. You'll be surprised with how easy it comes off. If the color of you car starts appearing on your rag, stop. I don't think it will, though.
