Lightbulb Chrysler Crossfie Convertible

Quote from AutoExpress:

It's only just been given the go-ahead, but already the Chrysler Crossfire is getting the chop! 'Roofless' bosses at DaimlerChrysler are giving the sporty coupé the axe, but as our exclusive picture reveals, there's no need for potential buyers to worry.
Production of a rag-top version of the stylish car will be announced soon, and a right-hand-drive version for British customers is definitely on the cards. Speaking at the Detroit Motor Show, Chrysler UK's managing director Simon Elliott confirmed he had placed an order for 1,500 Crossfires with US bosses.

And when the cabrio gets the go-ahead, he said that number will rise to 2,000. The hard-top car will go on sale here in 12 months' time, while the convertible should arrive by early 2004. Because of the Crossfire's distinctive sloping rear end, insiders say the cabriolet is likely to come with a canvas roof. That's be-cause there won't be room for a Mercedes SLK-style mechanical folding lid. The Crossfire is the first new model to be created under the ownership of parent company Daimler-Chrysler, and has been made with European tastes in mind – meaning a dynamic and involving drive.

A number of suspension and steering components are shared with the Mercedes C-Class Sports Coupé, and initially only one engine will be offered – a 3.2-litre V6 with 215bhp and 310Nm of torque.

Elliott said he was delighted the coupé Cross-fire was coming to the UK, and most importantly in right-hand drive. He's been frustrated at the lack of RHD on models such as the Sebring and 300M, which he believes could sell well in Britain. He told us: "The Crossfire will appeal to many drivers, and will bring down the age profile of the Chrysler customer base by a long way." Pricing has not been set, but will be comparable with rivals such as the Audi TT roadster, Mercedes SLK and BMW's Z3 at less than £25,000.

I think it looks better than the original concept. The original was a little too wild, and the rib/wiper that split the front and back windshields was hideous. I think the front end is much nicer, and the rear is practically unchanged. The production model keeps the same great profile as the concept. And as for the convertable, it looks very nice...

softtop convertibles usually don't look as good cause they don't match paint most of the time.
