Too Tall?

Im setting up my 88 rx7 for auto x this spring, maybe sooner, and I’ve run into a problem. I’m 6’ tall and barely fit into the car as it is I have maybe ½ an inch clearance, I was trying on my helmet yesterday and theirs absolutely no way I can fit in the car with out practically laying the seat down. I’m trying to set up for stock and according to that whole, "if we don't say you can do it, you can't." thing, I can’t replace the drivers seat so that I can get enough head room to actually fit in the car.
Am I reading the rules right?
Any ideas on how to get more head room without a new seat?
or should I just suck it up and move up a division because I’m too tall?

Re: Too Tall?

I'm just slightly too tall with the stock seats in my civic... thanks to the sun roof, so I have to cock my head sideways slightly to run with my helmet on.

Does your RX have a sun roof? you could allways open it....

Re: Too Tall?

yeah it does.... intresting thought ill have to try that when i get home this weeknd. it may work but it would probably still be rather uncomfortable.

I’m using a hand me down helmet, or at least I’m planning on it, do helmets come with different thicknesses of padding? If I could get a helmet that was thinner I could probably just suck it up and slouch down during the run.

thanks for the help Apex

Re: Too Tall?

The best thing would be to take your car up to a shop (usually at the track see this all the time) and ask about ether a new seat bracket or you might need a new driver’s seat to but usually fixed with the bracket. Changing the seat usually they don’t mind in stock class, when I started racing a Porsche 911 back when I turned 14 I was able to put another seat in but now I am in moded so they don’t care. A friend with a 1993 had the same problem and all he had to do was get a bracket from them that lowered the seat an extra 2 ½ in. so he could fit with his helmet on.

Re: Too Tall?

just tilt the seat a bit, once you start running, you won't notice your head hits. i promise.
