Damp Weather missing/stalling 99 Frontier
It rains alot on Canada's East Coast -
...and whenever it is raining or has rained heavily overnight, my '99 starts fine, and runs well for about 3 - 5 km's before it starts missing heavily and even stalling if I have to stop for traffic. Once the truck warms up (a few more km's), it runs fine for the rest of the day even if the rain continues. I've tried parking it facing both direction in my driveway (up and down the steep slope) thinking that water might have been building up in the airbox and then being drawn in as I drive, but it made no difference.. There is no evidence of damp plug wires, air filter, or distributor cap. The engine seems fairly dry even as it misses. I use Bosch platinum plugs (fairly new) and she runs fine in all other conditions - even extreme cold. Any suggestions as to how the rain is getting to this engine? thanks Chris |

Incidentally, I was really ticked off at the low quality fasteners Nissan used for the Dist. Cap. The metal screws were so soft that two of the phillips drive heads stripped immediately, and the third snapped off requiring me to drill and tap the distributor. There is just no excuse for such poor materials, and using phillips head screws are an invitation to trouble. The old cap and rotor showed no signs of a crack or excess wear, but it must have been worn to cause this problem. Anyways - 15 minute job took almost 2 hours - about par for the course. At least it solved the problem. Thanks to O'Reagan Nissan parts Dept (Halifax NS) who gave a 10% discount as a member of the Military. Wish we got that support from more places. |
