97 4L60E Trans problem
97 Silverado - 5.7 with 4l60e trans. truck will not shift into 2nd gear while driving. stays in first gear until rpm are high and shifts into 3rd. under hard acceleration will stay in 1st until let off gas then shift into 3rd. manual shifting results in same, no 2nd gear until selector is moved into 3rd then shifts into 3rd. havent got any trans codes, fluid change netted no change in performance, fluid was pretty dirty but didnt smell burned, and there were no metal shavings in pan. any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Re: 97 4L60E Trans problem
you might need to hone out your valve body but first check to see if you have a shift kit in it

Re: 97 4L60E Trans problem
What I would do next is have the computer scanned. A tech needs to drive it with the scanner attached to see whether 2nd gear is being commanded by the computer. If you have 2nd command then I would pull the band servo next and examine it. Since you do have overdrive, we can assume that the band is ok.

That's a cute picture of your little girl. Those smiles are the reason we work hard and bust our butts to provide for them. They are worth it.

Re: 97 4L60E Trans problem
If you have not yet solved your problem, In your 4l60e there are a number of eletronic solinoids one of these is a 2/3 shift solinoid this is an easy and cheap fix if doing it yourself. as i have done this repair on my 97 k1500 z71, Good luck and let me know how you made out.

Re: 97 4L60E Trans problem
You can get the shift solenoids pretty cheap, but also you may want to check some fuses. I have experienced this problem before and there is a Trans fuse in the driver's side fuse panel. The access door is on the side of the dash right when you open the door. I think it is like number 21 or 22.

Re: 97 4L60E Trans problem
Did you change the filter? This would be the first place I would start, if you did not do that when you were changing the fluid.
If you have done this find a shop with a scanner that can pull live data on your electronics. this will tell you for sure if it is the electrical J Franciamore www.transmissionkingatx.com |
