Question hard shifting

2000 saturn LS-AUTOMATIC
- SOMETIMES SHIFTS HARD INTO GEARS
- ONCE IN A WHILE DOESN'T SHIFT INTO NEXT GEAR AND CAR HAS TO BE SHUT OFF AND STARTED AGAIN
TRANSMISSION? SENSOR? OR COMPUTER? $$$$$ ?

I had trouble with L200 year 2002 turned out to be catalitic Converter

Check the main transmisison electrical connector on the top of the valve body cover (stamped steel "pan") for contamination and tightness. Failure of the PWM solenoid circuit can cause full line pressure, and the resultant harsh engagement.

more than likely need a new pc(pressure control) solenoid and new tcm calibration. have codes checked. if it has a p1811 in the tcm, this is what it needs

Thats what I was going to say, i agree 100%. I use to work for Saturn and this was so common. Everytime I saw a hard shift concern and ses lamp on. I was a given that the code is a p1811. Replace the pressure solenoid. Enjoy.

I work for a company that makes automotive transmission solenoids, and when my 2002 Saturn L started shifting funny, I actually developed an aftermarket pressure control solenoid to replace the original part made by Delphi. There are some fantastic posts with pictures of the problem over in the Buick Century forum (see link below). The problem with the Delphi PCS (armature wear) is exceedingly common and GM actually switched to a Bosch solenoid in 2003+ model years. The part we make, however, is a simplified version of the 4L60E PCS that we've been making since 2002 (almost 3 million per year), and it just doesn't wear out like the Delphi part does.
