Passenger Window - Switch or Something else?
Hello,
The passenger window in my truck decided to stop working the other day. I took the panel off yesterday and jumped from the connection to the motor directly and the motor worked fine, window went up and down without issue. When I plug the switch back in and hook the motor up, nothing. I can hear the relay on the driver's side clicking when I hit the switch button, but no power is going to the motor. Is this as simple as it being the switch? While I had the connector off, I jumped from the power in the plug to what I believe goes to the window in the plug and the motor didn't activate, which made me wonder if this is something else and possibly not just an issue with the switch? Thank you for any thoughts you can provide! |

Re: Passenger Window - Switch or Something else?
Never heard of a relay on a power window circuit.....the switch output goes directly to the motor......the only addition I have ever seen in the driver's door is an express down module.....this will be located between the switch and the motor....

Re: Passenger Window - Switch or Something else?
Thanks for the replies. J cat - you are thinking take the pane off, unplug the motor, get a test light and bridge over the connection, engage the switch and see if I get any voltage at the motor? There is only one relay for the driver and passenger windows in the fuse panel and the driver's side is working currently.

Re: Passenger Window - Switch or Something else?
Got it, thank you J cat. I will order a new switch as power directly to the motor does engage the window up and down, there is power to the switch, and plugged in the switch does nothing.

Re: Passenger Window - Switch or Something else?
Argh, no dice. Got the new switch, installed it (all of 2 seconds...) and powered up, nothing. I can still hear the relay clicking inside the switch, but no action on the window.
Another thought occurred to me... I have a viper alarm system. The system has a window module in it, though I have no idea where it is located. I believe there is a resistor in there that tells the auto window up/down when to stop. That feature (can put the windows up and down) is working on the driver window, but not the passenger. Forgot about this secondary system. Seems like that is the next best place to start? |

Re: Passenger Window - Switch or Something else?
Alright, opened this up a little more. Bottom line - when I had the door off and applied ground to one side of the motor and power to the other, the window operated. Therefore, we determined the motor is good. Now, ruled out the switch. Master relay in the panel is ruled out because the driver's side works, so we must be down to this Clifford control unit, right? Determined it is a DEI 530T (Clifford / Viper). Looking at the unit, I determined there are 4 wires heading from the control box to the passenger door. I unplug the unit and I can still hear the relay on the passenger switch clicking when triggering the passenger switch on driver's door.
Big question - how do I "test" the alarm unit? How would I replicate "removing" the unit and going back to factory? The four wires from the unit that head to the passenger side are blue/black, green/black, white/black, brown/black. I spent a few minutes trying to apply ground to one and power to the other in combos and all I achieved was a spark or two, no window activation. As, always, thank you a ton for your help and any thoughts you might have! |

Re: Passenger Window - Switch or Something else?
Thanks for all of the help here! Don't know if it was a loose wire or the alarm window control module went out, either way I removed the wiring from the window module and went back to "stock" and it works fine, no more 1 touch passenger side window, but at least it works now!
