Bet that cost a pretty penny. Ooops, shouldn't use colloquialisms - I'll bet that wasn't a cheap kit.

It cost about the same as 2 Tamiya Red Bull's bought locally. It comes with pretty much everything included in the box... no extra detail sets required. As far as modeling "bang for the buck" goes, this is easily the best $164 I've ever spent and I was more than happy to sell off some of my stash to pay for it. Regards, Dan

Re: MFH 1/20 Ferrari 312T4 Hybrid kit WIP
Nice work and great eye candy for the holidays! THANK YOU
Once you drill everything...I don't think any quality kit could be built faster than these MFH kits. Something that works for me is the coating of parts with dark gray or black oil paint right out of the tube. Zero thinning. paint every nook and cranny and wipe it all back off the a soft rag and dry brush until it's 99% gone. It works way better than washes and takes just a minute. Not on all parts of course, just the castings like the pedal pivot area and other areas where shadows or parts connect like bushings, shock mounts, halfshafts, etc. Try it..you can always wash it off if you don't like the effect. This kit is a bargin for sure. Half the price of a typical Ferrari by MFH. |

Can't wait to start buying mfh kits. They are just a piece of art. Maybe my first one will be the f1 gtr. Thanks for sharing and good luck with the build.

Re: MFH 1/20 Ferrari 312T4 Hybrid kit WIP
Hi Dan
I have just received my kit - Well worth the money - 1/2 the normal price of MFH. You seem to be getting on with your build really quickly with super results. If you can , please help. What process do you use to clean and polish the metal ? Watching the build with great interest. Kind Regards William |

Hi William, Pretty impressive kit isnt it? For the main (aluminium) tub I simply polished it using 0000 steel wool then followed it up with Tamiya fine compound using a soft cloth. This turned out pretty well for me and didn't cause any damage to the delicate rivet detail. With the white metal parts I first used 800 grit wet and dry, 1200 wet and dry then finished up as above with steel wool and compound. After all the polishing was done on the tub parts I have since cleaned the parts with some isopropyl alcahol, dusted on a couple of coats of Tamiya metal primer then a couple of coats of Tamiya TS13 Clear. I can now handle the parts without leaving finger prints and worring about tarnishing. Regards, Dan

Re: MFH 1/20 Ferrari 312T4 Hybrid kit WIP
Very helpful - Thanks Dan
It looks as if you have reduced the pin sharp rivets - just right. I was going to use a fine Vallorbe file to take them down but I'll take your advise on the steel wool first. Just looking over your work makes me want to start today. "She who must be obeyed" would hit the roof, it being Christmas Day - Would like to stay in contact with you during the build ,if you don't mind. Until next time Have a HAPPY CHRISTMAS. William |

Re: MFH 1/20 Ferrari 312T4 Hybrid kit WIP
It's been a week or so since my last update, theres not a lot to show but heres what I've done so far.
I started on the seat by spraying a couple of coats of Tamiya white primer. Once this was dry I masked off the white pad area near the top and sprayed the rest of the seat semi gloss black. Finally, after checking some reference pics i touched-up the two small circular areas with a fine point gundam marker. The wheel nuts had their PE cente details added, they were then fiven a wash of gunmetal metallizer and finally a polish with steel wool to remove the paint from all the high spots. The main engine and gearbox components were painted with Tamiya champagne gold followed by subsequent washes and dry brushing. I drilled all of the holes in the distributor and heads for the sparkplug wiring and detail painted some other components. Then disaster struck. I was working on the front suspension, gently bending arms and brackets to align the upper control arms when I must have applied a little bit more pressure than I meant to, destroying two delicate little pieces beyond repair AARRGGHH. Needless to say I stopped work for the night before I did anymore damage. I have carefully packed everything back into the box for now and I guess I need to contact MFH and see if I can get some replacement parts. Hopefully I'll be able to continue with the build soon. Regards, Dan
