Purchase 2001 Xterra
I have an opportunity to purchase a 2001 Xterra with 109K miles, but not being very familiar with them I thought I would bounce a few issues off the readers that are concerning. The price is under $5,000.00
1. Broken torsion bar on the right side. 2. Owners say it needs a cam positioning sensor which requires replacing the distributor. Very rough idle and stalls to the point where I could not take it for a test drive. 3. Front tires are worn to the steel belts on the insides of the tire. I have done some post searches and did not find any for the torsion bar failure; is this an abusive cause? Does the cam sensor prevent the car from running? Is the tire wear normal for the Xterra front end geometry? Otherwise the body is in very good condition, the undercarriage has little rust, and the interior is shows some wear, but no rips or tears. I’m a handy enough that the work as explained by the owner seems doable, but I respect the opinions of the folks that frequent this forum and your thoughts and experiences would be greatly appreciated about purchasing this Xterra. |
