Exclamation Help- car shuts off while in idle intermittently

Hi everyone,
I need help with my 2013 Malibu. For an entire year, my car has shut off intermittently while I’m stopped at a light in idle, AND sometimes it shuts off while trying to start. Every time it has done either of those issues, it has started right back up after. It does these issues pretty far apart. It will have either of the issues around every 1-3 months.

Also, right before it has shut off, it will sort of vibrate and sputter like. It is when my foot is on the break. To prevent it from shutting off, I ease my foot off the brake and I can feel it stopping the vibration and sputtering. So it doesn’t shut off when I do that.

It does not give any codes. Whenever it has shut off, the check engine light will come on. (((BUT I tried scanning it with my obdII scanner and the scanner hasn’t been able to pick up codes from it. )) Once I try to start it again, it will start up and the check engine light will go off, never actually storing the code.

I’ve had about 5 different mechanic shops look at it including the dealership. No one can figure it out. Please help! Has anyone had this happen with a car?

Re: Help- car shuts off while in idle intermittently

Could be a problem with the start/stop system, if your car has one (I think that came online for '14). Could also be the automatic shutoff feature acting up (again if your car has that). This is designed to conserve fuel by automatically turning the engine off after a set period of idling. This is not helpful, but the '13s are nothing but trouble, so expect more problems down the road.

Thanks. I think I’m gonna trade it. It doesn’t have the start/stop feature. It’s been acting up a lot recently. It was shutting off during idle like once a month or once every two months. Lately, it’s don’t it 4 times in a week. Only during mornings. Never afternoons or evenings. It just starts vibrating in waves like. So I can always feel ahead of time when it’s gonna shut off.
