Water on floor of 1996 skylark

I have a 1996 Skylark. I have water on the driver side and the passenger side. I have looked for the hole by the steering column. I do not see a hole there. Has anybody found where the water is exactly coming in at from the firewall? There is a long seem that I can see from under the hood. Is this seem the issue?

Poured black top crack sealer into cowl area down across the sterring column coming out of the firewall. It appears to have sealed the leak for now. Hopefully it continues to work through winter.

I was told it was the heater core gone bad. How's your heater core? And I noticed this post was a long time ago... did you get your problem fixed?

Mine is not the heater core. If it was that, the anti freeze would be low. My issue is only when it rains. I have slowed it up with lots of under coating spryed into the cow under the wipers. But its still leaking.

I gave up on that water leak issue a long time ago. Now I just stuff a towel under the firewall cover and change it.

Re: Water on floor of 1996 skylark

If you have a "lake", then that carpet is soaked, and with the warm weather coming you will end up with a mildew smell.....only thing you can do is remove the seats, console, and remove the entire rug to dry it out....if you let the water stay under the rug, I guarantee you will have air bag problems, because the DERM(module for the air bag), sits on the fllor under the passenger seat, and the water will coorrode the harness and the module....

Now while you have the rug out......dry the floor of the car....remove hush panels under the dash(DR and PASS sides)......now have someone wet down the car thoroughly and you should get an Idea where the leak is coming from......could be a bad seam, but my money is on the fresh air inlet on the passenger side.....

As for the hard start, it may or may not be related to the water leak....water could corrode some grounds under the carpet......might even trickle down wire harnesses into contacts, causing corrosion.....
