Smile 1/12 Datsun 240ZG

Hey guys,
This is my latest project, need to give the 1/25 a spell......my eyes aren't as good as they once were.....

Picked it up recently off ebay at a reasonable price. It's been a "want" of mine for years, so I'm pleased I got it..

Comparison shot along side a 1/24 Fujimi 240ZG...

This is also what I wanted the Watanabe's for....
I started by making up the centre "spokes" from thin sheet. The spokes were then built up till I got what I think is pretty close to what they should be..
The inner and outer rims are from an old Porsche kit and are 16 inch. I'll be making these up into 16x8.5 and 16x9.5, front and rear respectively.

I'm also going to make my own tyres....225/45VR16 and 245/45VR16's.

It's going to be a long road, but one I really want to get done.....Stay tuned....

Thanks for dropping by
cheers
Greg

Nice progress, and nice to see you back building. I think you should resin cast the wheels as many people including myself would want a copy.

Re: 1/12 Datsun 240ZG

Thanks guys..
Thought I'd better give you an update..
I have the wheels almost ready...the pic below is the same centre, with both size outer rims in place...I'll cast the centre and wheel back half as one.

These were my options for it.....
Bottom left = Stock wheel/tyre, bottom right = Tamiya "spare parts" wheel/kit tyre....and top = my version....

TYRES......
Ok, this was always gonna be tricky....
I built up the two sidewalls from .010 strips, once I got to the size needed, the tread layer was added. I still have a layer or two to go, these will form the actual tread...
I left them hollow, to give it some room to squash under weight...if it's too heavy, I'll cast them solid..

After some smoothing (rather difficult without a lathe..) and putty, this is what I have.....
Stock height....

This is where I'd like to get her sitting..maybe a tad lower. It rubs the front when steered, but hopefully some more sanding/shaping will cure that...
Lowered height....

More soon guys....
cheers
Greg

Go to their website and find the Phone number or contact info. In the USA you can call them with the kit and tree numbers and they usually have the part if the kit is not out of production.

Hi Robotec,

Yes, you could try direct through Tamiya as Twowheelsrule has said, or
keep an eye on ebay.
I found mine there, they pop up every now and then...

For what it's worth..they come with snow tyres, not street as I've shown. The kit tyres I mentioned are from the 240ZG kit.

MidMazar,
No chance I'll let this one die man.......I'm right into it..

Thanks very much guys...more soon...

Re: 1/12 Datsun 240ZG

fantastic work with the wheels

i was woundering however, does the kit come with the normal frontend as well or just the g-nose. ive always been a big fan of 240z's and have owned two 1:1's in the past. i have thought about getting this kit but have held off since im dont care too much for the g-nose. if you could answer this for me that would be great.

thanks

Unfortunetely the kit has only the G-nose. Like you I prefer the regular Z-nose but that won't stop me from building the kit i have in my stash.

Re: 1/12 Datsun 240ZG

Absolutely correct you are Kris.
This kit is G-nose only, but you could get hold of the "rally" version and combine them.....

The other big + in doing so, you get to swap engine parts......triple webers.....

Re: 1/12 Datsun 240ZG

Ahhh, the rally version, brings back memories.

I was going to buy that when I was 13-14 years but it would cost me 6 months allowance so I had to save up for it. Went to the store twice a month to drool over it until I finally had the money. Then my parents wouldn't let me spend that much money on a toy. Arrrgh
