Not really, the manufacturers that produce plastic injection kits use metallic molds. They do directly design and produce their molds.

The "garage" kit manufacturers (resin kit manufacturers) however use the method that you described (make a prototype and than make the molds using that).

Re: Lancia Stratos Zero

You may to think anything you want, but it's my own way, and I like it.
May be you would laugh, but today I deside to make a new house for my kit , because I like to keep all in perfect order. In past life this was the Tamiya box from Nissan Skyline R32.

Way cool. What are you going to name the model company? :-) I don't see a logo on the box yet.

Re: Lancia Stratos Zero

I'm very impressed. That model is incredible. Will you let someone make a resin copy? Can you make parts for a second kit? I would love to have a model of a Stratos Zero.

Great find.

Reading the description I found this part hilarious:
"Saunders painted his Zero a striking Lamborghini Mica Orange, quite close to the original’s metallic hue. "

Just how close is Mica Orange to Metallic Blue?!

Re: Lancia Stratos Zero

This Model is AMAZING!!!

The Stratos Zero has always been one of my favorite cars. I wish I had a CNC like that sitting in my garage, I would never leave home.

Is there anyway you be able to help out with the dimensions of the car such as overall length, width, etc....so that I could possibly start my own model?

Re: Lancia Stratos Zero

I saw that on eBay also....no that is not his Kit....that is an old APEX Kit that is no longer made.

He has not said that he would be making a kit yet, but I would buy one if he did!

That kit is much more worse than my model. I do not recommend it to try to get. I hope I can make a quantity of own kits or I will give molds to smb. who can to produce mine kit. Be patient!
BTW: little update. The lower jaw and the rear gearbox cover. The last one I shall rebuild, because I want to insert bolts into it.

Re: Lancia Stratos Zero

I am satisfied by result at the third attempt (the right on the first photo). I have forgotten about the bottom lugs on the second cover. There is a dry fitting of resin bolts on the second photo.
