Re: 97 Grand Prix GT Power Steering grunt
Hmm... Thanks Rick!
The guy who tested it removed and re-installed the pulley for me; I remember seeing it flush with the shaft but will take another look at it. In the video it seems like it's pressed on too far, but actually it's the threaded hole on the shaft for the extractor that makes it look like that. Oscar.

Re: 97 Grand Prix GT Power Steering grunt
Hi guys,
so it's been a month and still can't fix this thing. It's still making the chattering noise. I've noticed it will be OK during a cold start, but after a few minutes (as temp climbs) it will start making the noise and also noticed a slight pressure build up in the PS fluid reservoir if I open the cap when the chattering is present. The pressure line vibrates along with the chattering (more like a resonating movement). I installed a new pump and it's still present; the guy who rebuilt the rack took a look at it and says it's ok. Don't know what else to check. Any other ideas guys? THANKS FOR ANY LIGHT SHED ON THIS. Oscar. EDIT.- I forgot to mention that I used Prestone Power Steering fluid (if I remember correctly that's what the manual stated to use). The mechanic poured in some additive to increase protection (like engine's cold start protection). The chattering was present even before the additive. Do you think the prestone fluid could be a problem? Would you rather advise to flush it out and use transmission fluid instead?.

Re: 97 Grand Prix GT Power Steering grunt
Just wanted to give some update.
The problem seems to be fixed now after replacing the Prestone power steering fluid (manual states to use this) with regular dexron III transmission fluid. The noise seems to be gone finally and I hope it stays that way. Oscar.
