The ZX2 was originally marketed as a fancy Escort. But the plain truth is that it is not an Escort, which is why Ford dropped the Escort from its name.

The ZX2 came out in 1998 as a compact coupe, available only in 2-door coupe versions. It uses the Contour's 2.0 liter 16-valve Zetec engine. {also one of the engine options of the Cougar and the Focus} The ZX2 has an Escort platform. Everything else is completely unique to the ZX2. So, it truly is not fair to call it an Escort. That would be like calling the 2005 Mustang a Lincoln LS, since the '05 Stang is on the LS platform.

So, you see the ZX2 indeed deserves its own section. It is not fair to all ZX2 fans to be lumped together with a different car. {not that the Escort is a bad car, quite the contrary...}

I'm here, and I will help anyone out as much as I can. If anybody needs to know something, I'll give you the answer or get the info for you. I have a 2000 Bright Red MTX ZX2. Right now it is in the garage getting a makeover. It should be finished by the beginning of April. When it is finished, I will have pictures for everyone to see. Until then, I am willing to give my experience to all.
