Hi
I just clled Borgeson the correct part number is
937 for the vibration reducer $231.88
938 for straight shaft $201.16
both come with 5 year warranty

summit can get 937 for 187.99 but it is a month wait
not to bad

and the correct number at gmpartsdirect is 26073594
and it is $170 which includes shipping so I am going to order the Borgeson for 20 more

Re: Facts about steering slop....

For anyone considering a solid shaft replacement, I found this out from the makers while searching for one for my 98:

"We do not offer replacement shafts for '95-'98 models because of liability issues due to the shafts being integrated with the air bag system. An OEM replacement is probably about the only option.
Thanks,
Gil Evans
Borgeson Universal"

Re: Facts about steering slop....

A way to see if it is the rag joint is pull the boot back at the steering column , turn the steering wheel back and forth only in the area there is play. See it the intermediate shaft starts and stops turning the same time u turn the wheel. Then pull the boot back at the rack, have an assistant turn the wheel or watch and see if the intermediate shaft turns at the same time the wheel does. if no assistant pull back the boot with a bungee cord and set up a digital camera on a tripod to record the intermediate shaft at the rack , give audible cues as to when turning the wheel.
