RPM's at Highway speed ??
I have my first VW in several years----just got a 2002 Beetle. Its a 2.0L with automatic.
Its turning about 2800 RPM at 60 mph, and I am wondering if that is normal for this car? |

Re: RPM's at Highway speed ??
Unfortunately they went with transmissions designed for local driving instead of highway driving. You can shift to high gear at 35 mph. So if you are on a road with 70 mph speed limit, the engine will be revving 1,500 rpm's higher than a comparable car. And that is why you only get 26 mpg instead of 40 mpg. Doesn't make sense to me. If they had it geared right it would have been the best seller around.
