'E' is for the engine cover, 'L' is for that sides luggage compartment just like the standard road cars

Having only briefly checked my files I can't see a pic of a GT with those compartments open

Side Pods are full of Technical equipment such as battery, Oil Tanks, Coolers, Air Jacks and no doubt a host of other bits I have missed out on.

No doubt our good friends Le-Man or MSO would be able to provide a more detailed list of what they do actually house?
There are pictures of them open on 01R I am sure possibly in the Goodwood festival thread.

Why would the F1 GT have those? A road car shouldn't need air jacks and coolers would need to be there without a vent on it...just would seem odd.

Thanks for the pic Hurst. Lends me to believe there may be an F1 GT luggage set in those things.

I'd like to think the GT has the same luggage sets as the standard roadcars, and the longtail GTRs have the bits and bobs that carbuilder2002 mentions

Here's a better pic

Wonderful pic. thank you. That piece of tape at the bottom makes me think they don't really intend to open that pod up. Hopefully MSO or Erik can chime in with some pics.

I actually like the GT roadcar more than the stanard roadcar nowadays. It took some time to grow on me, but finally did. Still like the LM more, but definitely the GT at a solid #2.

On the right hand side the same knobs;

No, there are no pneumatic jacks, the bottom is completely flat:

Happy New Year all.

I can't find a picture so will try to remember to take one next time I am next to XPGT but to confirm it does indeed have luggage lockers the same as the other road cars.

Re: The Official: "There's no such thing as a dumb question about the McLaren F1" thread

Thanks M.S.O What colour is the luggage set for it, and does the leather luggage set have, embossed [in what colour leather?] under the handle, 56 F1GT or 56XPGT or something else?

Thanks! Love it...for sure my favorite F1 behind the LM. Think I may do something crazy like try to make my 1/18 UT longtail have that feature of opening luggage compartments like the AutoArt F1s now after seeing that.
