Re: Ferrari 250 LM (Climax/MFH)
Hi Guys, I’ve been spending a lot of time filling & airbrushing the remaining bodywork over the last couple of weeks, superfine Milliput, grey etch prime, white primer, four coats of red base and three coats of pre thinned lacquer from Zero. I much prefer this clear coat as it gives a more authentic finish but requires a lot of flattening and polishing. As I like to leave the paint to harden over a few weeks before polishing I’ve had plenty of time to finish the interior details:
Door sill plate: I’ve made a fire extinguisher and mount: Managed to get hold of some 1/24 resin helmets from Immense miniatures in the US, cleaned up, painted the stripes etc. and added details: Next step will be the final assembly and then I can start thinking about the display; something simple probably similar to the Aston DBR1 I built a couple of years back for anyone who remembers that one: Last edited by LeeABC; 02-15-2017 at 09:37 AM. |

Re: Ferrari 250 LM (Climax/MFH)
Beautiful work LeeABC! May I ask you what machine do you use to turn and mill those nice parts for the fire extinguisher? Also would like to know about that great textured (holes) seatbelt material and the sparco sign which looks like fabric. Does these latter ones come with the kit? It is fascinating to follow your work!

The turning was done on an old watchmakers lathe, the smaller parts I generally make by hand after turning a diameter to hold a piece of material in a pin vice. I'm an engineering technician at a University and am lucky enough to have the knowledge and access to all machine tools, which is very useful! Cheers, Lee. |

Re: Ferrari 250 LM (Climax/MFH)
Hi Guys, I've finished the paintwork and I'm fairly happy with the results although when you look this closely at details you can always see flaws.
I'm in the process of getting the best body fit I can on the chassis and fitting the fuel tanks, when I'm happy it will be glued and screwed together and I can get on with the finishing details before I start thinking about the diorama. |

Re: Ferrari 250 LM (Climax/MFH)
This is the last WIP post for this build, just a few details to add to the model, fixing the door and engine cover for the last time and then positioning it on it's display base with a small diorama I'm preparing.
I've made a former to beat some 0.25mm ally into something resembling Armco and will add some tarmac and shrubs etc. After two years work I will be very glad to post some gallery shots in a month or so. Thanks for watching, cheers, Lee. |
