Tamiya Brabham BT44b 1/12

Hi,
just started the next wip with this car.

Its the Brabham BT44b from Tamiya.I found some after market parts in my stash and will see if i can use it or not.
The missing Goodyear decals are also here.
So the only thing i would need are some pics from the car.Original shots would be perfect, but restored ones are also welcome.

I will start in a few days.
regards Christian

Re: Tamiya Brabham BT44b 1/12

Thanks for watching!
Today here are the first shots of the engine.I started with the engine instead of the Tamiya plans who says to start with the chassis first.

I glued the parts together and tried to simulate the casting of the engine block.
I used Tamiya Structur color for this effect.

After the color was dry i sprayed the first coat of color on it.
Now it needs some detail coloring and than i will apply the pe parts.

Re: Tamiya Brabham BT44b 1/12

The first pe parts are installed.

but i dont know where to put these ones here?

Thundervalley says these are "Bracket for holding Exhaust Collector to header Pipes"

I am not so good in english language, but i think i got something to do with the exhaust and the engine block mounting,or?

Re: Tamiya Brabham BT44b 1/12

Chris - these go on the exhaust pipes where they meet the collector for the straight part of the exhaust pipe starts - the individual exhaust pipes coming from the engine meet together at the collector - then the straight part of the exhaust pipe is connected there should be one of these attached to each of the four areas of the collector and then to the straight part of the exhaust pipe -then a bolt goes through the holes to keep the exhaust and the pipes from coming apart

Hope this helps - also can you post a picture of the bottle of the Tamiya structur paint??

Thanks Chris

Re: Tamiya Brabham BT44b 1/12

Chris - I am not sure if those parts were on the Brabham BT44 exhaust

TVF1 DFV photo-etch is for many of the DFV cosworth engines not just the BT44

Chris - look for reference pictures of the exhaust where the engine meets the transaxle - that is usually where the collector is located
You should look for reference pics of the exhaust where the exhaust pipe "snakes" meet the exhaust pipes "straight" parts

Some times the exhausts are held with springs and sometimes bolts

Hope this helps you
John

Re: Tamiya Brabham BT44b 1/12

Chris - you did a really good job with the "cast aluminum" texture look on the engine and trans-axle

did you airbrush that texture or did you brush paint it?

Re: Tamiya Brabham BT44b 1/12

Hi John, many thanks for your help!

I used this Tamiya color http://www.modellbau-seidel.de/index...iya&best=87115
You cant use it with the airgun, but a pencil works fine. With some thinner you will get a smoother surface.

My TVF1 set is marked for the Brabham 44b,but you are right. There are some marks in the instruction sheet who tell me that some parts are not for the brabham.
So i have to check my few reference pics from the car.

Thanks!

Re: Tamiya Brabham BT44b 1/12

Hi,today i changed the E-Jan springs with the ones from Top Studio.

Here are the E-Jan springs who are much too long.I already cut 3mm off and they are even too long.I glued them under the holding bracket.
Not a good solution.

So i decided to use springs from Top Studio for mufflers.
These are perfect and now its better.

These springs was used.

Now i will go on with some smaller engine parts and than i will glue the gearbox in place.
Thanks!

Re: Tamiya Brabham BT44b 1/12

Gearbox and engine are now together.

I felt that the gearbox are still too shiny.I used a flat clear coat after i colored it.But its still shiny.
But on the other side when all the parts around are on the right place it would be ok.
regards Christian

Re: Tamiya Brabham BT44b 1/12

Ready for firing up that cossie engine.

A very helpful book for all that cable work is this here:

http://members.shaw.ca/millersbrm/publications2.html
#5 "Plumbing and Wiring Strategies for the DFV", (Colour ), Published 2011 ---- $36.00 U.S.

When you are planing to build some of the cosworth engine's,this is your standard book.Everything is written and every small piece of the engine is explained.
Perfect for modeling!

regards Christian
