My '83 Spider tries to start but will not turn over. There is little to no sprak, however we were able to push start it. Any ideas on what the problem might be ?

Hi there. I have an '84 Alfa Spider... my no start is a bit different... mine I get a click and only a fuel pump hum. Can be anything from the starter to a weak battery (it's my understanding that if it does not get around 9-10+ volts during the ignition process, it won't start). Have you visited the Alfabb.com site as well? There are a whole slew of threads there for folks with Spiders etc... specific to their car with similar issues and a number of things to try. Might be worth a visit if you have not already been there.

Re: 1983 Spider - No Start
if your battery is in the truck, like on my 79 you need a good 750 amp battery and good ppos and neg connections. Most auto stores and a weak battery will tell you , you don't need such a big battery for a small engine but u have a good 14 feet of cable that you're pumping current through. So a weak battery on poor connections just won't do
CHEERS and best of luck |
