S10 Blazer Auto Trans ID

I have a 1987 S10 Blazer 2.8 L 4x4 two door w/auto transmission on the column. How do I identify whether the auto trans is one with or without a valve body? Can I tell just from looking at the outside of the tranny or do I need to get into the trans to tell which one I have on this S10.
Also, does anyone have experience with finding a used replacement tranny for this old of a S10?
I really like this Blazer and want to get it back on the road. Any help will be much appreciated.

Re: S10 Blazer Auto Trans ID

Any automatic transmission will have a valve body (even back to the antiquated Olds Hydra-Matic and Buick DynaFlow).

The question may have been whether if has an electronic or full hydraulic valve body, and a 1987 would have a full hydraulic valve body with a single solenoid for torque converter lockup. Most likely, it would have been a TH-700R4 (4660), which is a prior version of the 4L60E. There is a remote possibility that it would have had a 3L40 (re-named TH200C) behind a 4-cylinder, but most of those also got the 700R4.

Thank you Blue Bowtie for your response. I guess I forgot to say "auxillary valve body" in my thread. Whenever I go online looking for a used 700R4--your right about that too--I find I need to select with or without an auxillary valve body to continue. How can I tell?
