Need an Audi now? There's an app for that
SAN FRANCISCO RESIDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO REQUEST AUDIS JUST LIKE THAT
Sometimes, you need an Audi yesterday. If you live in San Francisco and have a smartphone and you are legally capable of entering into a contract (San Francisco-based smartphone-owning small dogs and children do not qualify) you can skip Uber. Order up the Audi of your dreams and one will show up just like that. What can we say -- San Francisco is a magical place. Audi on Demand will provide an Audi by the day for up to 28 days -- everything from an A4 to an R8 (we recommend the R8). Drivers will be able to select the color and trim of the car they like and it will be delivered by a concierge, who will familiarize the driver with the features of the car. Drivers will be able to lock and unlock their cars via the app or with a special key card. Audi on Demand will also be able to match drivers with the right car based on their needs, so a driver looking for a ski trip might want to request a Q7 or a Q5, while those in a hurry will probably go for an S7 or an R8. All the cars available through the app will have MMI Navigation Plus and SiriusXM standard, in addition to Quattro all-wheel drive -- a must in the Bay Area. Drivers will also be able to request additional equipment for their cars including items like ski racks, bicycle racks and child seats. Best of all, no membership fee is required for the service. "The service is rooted in customization, personalization and having the right car for the right moment," said Mark Del Rosso, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Audi of America. "While competing services point their customers to vehicles parked on the street, Audi on demand delivers a truly premium experience, with concierges personally delivering and returning vehicles for customers where and when they need them." The program will be in "beta testing" in San Francisco for now, to use San Francisco lingo, though Audi says it will expand to other major cities in the coming years. Audi has not mentioned pricing for the on-demand app, but if you're lucky enough to be able to afford San Francisco housing... how do you not have an Audi already? http://autoweek.com/article/technolo...n=awdailydrive
