1991 lebaron convertible top start & stop
Hello team. I am new here and I have searched previous posts and haven't found anything that fits my issue. If it is a duplicate, I apologies in advance.
I have a 1991 lebaron and the previous owner had disconnected the hydraulics for the convertible top and opened and closed it manually. i tried running the motor while hydraulics disconnected from the pulley system and it runs and the hydraulics move up and down but only for a short time then they quit and all i hear is clicking. when i turn the power off and wait for 30-60 seconds then turn it back on the hydraulics will work again but again for only a brief moment. I am stumped on what is the issue and how to fix. I have scowered the web bringing no results. Thanks in advance for your help. Tomas |

Re: 1991 lebaron convertible top start & stop
Could it be your pump assembly is bad? Make a junk yard run and get one. The easiest way to nab one is to remove the back seat and it'll be right there behind some cardboard. Lift the bottom half of the back seat up, by pulling where the buckles are, then get something to pry the front of the bottom part up, there's a right way to do this, but I don't know it. If you break the snaps don't worry, once you put the seat back you won't notice. Then there's 2 10mm bolts on the bottom of the top half of the back seat, remove them then lift up the top half of the seat to remove it. The pump will be right in front of you.
However, the clicking might imply one of the relays is bad. There should be 2 relays sitting right on the pump. I don't know what you can replace them with, until then you could always hotwire the pump to make sure it's not broken.

Thanks MadMan. I will give this a go. And for the back seat removal, I believe you need to remove the interior siding at the back side windows where the arm rest and speaker covers are then you get access to the bolts needed.
Thanks again, if any other thoughts come up please let me know and i'll keep you posted with the results Tomas |

Well the only way to completely remove the side panels is to remove the seat first. So once yuo get the seat out, you'll find out what's next.

Re: 1991 lebaron convertible top start & stop
Good idea to talk to Chrysler dealer. Many parts are still available. I just bought a 1992 lebaron convertible and have gotten good information from the service dept. on what I need to get. You can still go to salvage yard for parts; but dealer may direct you to parts you need. They helped me. Linda
