2004 High RPM problem

I just bought a used 2004 Jetta. Problem is, it tacs at 4,000 RPM when going 75-80 MPH. It will not go into an overdrive. I'm spending way too much on gas with this thing. Took it to the dealership and they said everything checked out normally. I am CERTAIN something is wrong here! I test drove 3 other Jetta's (same year, same model) and none of them went above 3,000 on the freeway. Anyone else have this problem? More importantly, is this a problem?

Check to see if the tire size matches the printed size sticker on the door jamb.

One other idea, take it in and get the "adaptation status" and "basic settings" done by a tech with a scan tool. I have had a couple of cabrio's have the same problem. Usually from a dead battery. If there has been any work done on it where the battery has been disconnected, it MUST be done!!! good luck

Thanks for the advice. If I can get the dealer to ADMIT to a problem, maybe they will do as you guys suggested.
