Re: dies at idle and to much gas when drivingn help!

Is the check engine light on?

Unplug the MAF sensor and see if it helps.

4.3 V6???????
If so.

On fuel problem run FUEL PRESSURE TEST.
On check engine light check for codes AND CLEAR CODES AND SEE WHAT CODES COME BACK.
POST BACK CODE NO.

The only true test on a fuel pump is to check the direct fuel pressure from fuel pump.
A quick test is to block off the return line and see if fuel pressure comes up to 75-85 lbs.
But do not run the pump at full pressure very long.
Also when testing fuel pump and pressure you need to tape a gauge to outside windshield or outside mirror and drive it on the road for 20 -30 minutes
until the pump gets has run a while to check for a pump fading out after hot.

Hard to start cold or hot and fuel pressure testing guide lines.
Check cold start fuel pressure.
Check engine running fuel pressure.
Check engine running on the road fuel pressure.
Then shut it off and watch for fast leak down.
Pinch off at rubber part or block off return line and check full pressure.
If pump has full pressure with return line blocked and low pressure without it blocked most usually the fuel pressure regulator is leaking or not holding pressure.
Later V6 and V8 gm engines should have 60-66 fuel pressure.
Cold start should be 64-65 lbs of pressure.
If you do not have full fuel pressure on a cold start the injectors will not squirt fuel.
Do not leave home without it.
Engine running should be 60-66 lbs pressure depending on engine load.
Full pressure with return pinched off should be 75-85 or more.
And if it has a fast leak down after shut off you have a leak in system.
Post back fuel pressure readings.

Sorry I assumed you had a 4.3. No MAF on a 2.2.

Confirm good fuel pressure when it quits or acts up.
Specs 41-47 lbs.

Read and check codes and post back code no.
When it acts up confirm good spark to all plugs.
Good AC Delco plugs and wires?
When was the last good tune up?

Most parts places will read codes for you.

If you have a cylinder miss check that out.
And confirm good plugs and spark to all plugs.

Re: dies at idle and to much gas when drivingn help!

oK ill stop by NAPA and hope they can read the codes for me.

Ill check the spark on all 4 cylinders in a few to and post it up.

Also if this helps right after it dies, when i try to start it back up it with start up fine then die out a second after the engines running and will do that about 3 times in a row then ill wait 5 to 10 mins and it will start up and stay runnin. but it feels a little slugish till i get the rpms up.

Hope this might help a little and ill have the codes up hopefully in a little as well.

Thanks

You have to have good spark and fuel pressure.
Also code no may help point to problem.

Re: dies at idle and to much gas when drivingn help!

OK so went on a mission to sears to get my car OBD II answers.

The Codes are PO107, PO122 and PO171

Also the car drove fine again for 20mins then right when i get there it started to sputter and died out...

Then on the way home it was dieing out the whole time i could rev it most of the time but if i went on the gas more then about half way it would want to die out.. and it almost sounds like its backfiring too...

Also the clutch is pretty bad not to sure if it might also be adding to the problem.

Let me know what ya think my next move should be.

THanks

Chase

Re: dies at idle and to much gas when drivingn help!

Codes show several problems.

Codes should be cleared and see what comes back.

The codes you have is map and tps sensor low voltage and a fuel trim engine running lean.

Engine running lean may be low fuel pressure or map and tps sensor problems.
Fuel pressure should be tested out good.
On tps sensor and TPS sensor low voltage you need to get a repair flow chart for them codes and go threw it.

Factory repair manual or a All Data diy sub or Mitchell on demand DIY online sub will have the repair flow charts. you need to fix the problems.

Remember codes do not say replace the part but check it out.
Like.
Go threw the repair flow charts.
