Aluminum Engine Block Search
Ok ladies and gents,
this one is is a curve ball for you. I am looking for year make and models of aluminum block 4 cylinder engines that don't have sleeves in them by design. I know they were not very common , very troublesome, oil burning, pieces of crap from what I've heard but this is for a project where none of those are a concern. Does anyone know of who and when these were made and for what so I can start my search? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks |

Re: Aluminum Engine Block Search
Original Vega 4 cylinder 2.3L engine. Used high silicon block with the aluminum etched away so the iron plated aluminum pistons were riding in silicon.
Chevy was too cheap to even supply a proper coolant recovery system on them and they overheated, so there's one reason why they didn't work. Curious, because Chevy, and Reynolds Aluminum had used the same technology on big block CanAm racing cars before the Vega, and it worked perfect. |
