Everyone paying MSRP for Scions?
I went to one Toyota dealership who will not budge on the MSRP (sticker price). The dealer also said I will NOT find a dealer who will come off the sticker price. Just wondering if anyone has had any luck saving some money. If this is true that I have to pay MSRP I'm going to try and get the ($500) destination charge reduced.
Thanks for any comments!! PS <> I'm looking to get an Xa (only option I want are Auto / floor mats)

Re: Everyone paying MSRP for Scions?
Most likely, yes. I've not heard of any discounts off the Monroney. What I'd really like to know before buying is whether the dealer accessories are really negotiable - I would bet they are if you get a nice dealer -- specifically the high margin items like fog lights, etc. (My bet for you is that the destination charge is just as firm - just make sure that you only pay the sticker and no additional dealer fees or crap like fabric protector, etc.)
I just don't want to option it up and pay $18,000 for a $12,000 car. |

Re: Everyone paying MSRP for Scions?
Scion is pretty solid on the MSRP - they don't go up or down much at all. Thankfully, the prices are pretty damn low to begin with.

I work at Toyota Dealer and what ya'll said is true on Scions...what the sticker says is what its gon cost you! If the salesperson is nice or whatever you might get $100 or $200 off but I doubt it! But yea thank god they are cheap!

The dealer who said they'd lose their Scion license if they sold above or below MSRP was lying.
The problem is from invoice to full sticker price there's only about $1000 in profit in the car. There's simply not enough room to negotiate and make money. It may not be such a great deal price wise to buy the accessories from them. What they do is buy them from a manufacturer and marking it up over retail. You can buy all of the products (except the actual TRD stuff) over the counter for MUCH less. However, the nice thing about buying the accessories from your local dealer is you can include them in the financing. Sure, you may pay a little more but you don't have to front the money. Documentation Fee
Yep Scion only sells based on MSRP, what they don't tell you is they set the "Documentation Fee" Looking at Different Dealers sites I found documentation fees from $95 to $599. Also some dealers try to really pile on pretty worthless but "high profit" options, like paint "sealant" and window engraving, etc. I've looked at different dealers, one had 2 options and a $599 doc fee added jumping the price of the car $1500. When I asked if they had any vehicles without the paint "sealant" option they said all their cars get it. I let them know I would go to another dealer for my car. Suddenly, they wanted to deal. I kept walking.

Pure Pricing
The Scion website calls is pure pricing. Although the dealer didn't tell me much about it, he said that Toyota is really hardcore about the Scion licenses. I had to go on the website at the dealer and "build" the car. They said that if they weren't having customers do this that the Scion license would be revoked.

my brother works at toyota and sells the scion.
they have a no haggle rule. like the scion xa, it cost $12,480 (manual) the dealer pays alittle more than $11,000 for the car. they don't make much money off the car. they don't raise or lower the price. their money maker is the hope you'll pay extra for add-ons. it's known that a few dealerships around the country to raise the price, but the ones who were caught have gotton in trouble. all you pay is add-ons and tax, tags, delivery. |
