Brake booster or master cylinder problem????
hey,
o.k here it is! 2000 Impala I thought that my brakes were in need of a change. the front ones were really bad and the back ones were gonna to be changed anyway. so I got the front brakes on and I thought that it was going to a big difference. it wasn't. I got the back brakes on and it was no difference. AT ALL!!!!! the petal still goes all the way to the floor. I was told that it might be my brake booster or the master cylinder so anyone have any ideas 'bout anything or how much each of these will cost, or how labour intensive this is going to be. or if anyone had these problem before thanks in advance! |

Re: Brake booster or master cylinder problem????
Have you tried bleeding the brakes properly? A bad booster will usually result in a very hard pedal. A bad master cylinder can make it go to the floor but we don't replace many of those on vehicles under 15 years old.

Re: Brake booster or master cylinder problem????
I think that the brakes were bled; however I will check into it. the car doesn't shut off and the brake lights doesn't come on. the petal goes all the way down to the floor, but if I were pump the brakes while the car is parked the petal will get hard to push, but I can hear the sound of air or something while I do this. I think that on the advice given so far it sounds like the master cylinder is gone in the car. which is costly right??
how's the labour charge???? thanks everyone. |

Re: Brake booster or master cylinder problem????
If the booster is bad the brake pedal will be very hard to push down.I suspect that because your brake pads were worn to the max and that you did not open the bleed valve before pushing the caliper pistons back that dirty brake fluid has jammed the master cylinder.. never push fluid from the caliper back into the system also when bleeding donot push pedal to the floor this WILL damage the master cylinder

Re: Brake booster or master cylinder problem????
hey everyone,
I just thought that you would like a update on this problem. I bought it to midas to get it looked at and guess what happened some MORON PUT POWER STEERING FLUID in the brakes. so now it ruined my master cylinder, my ABS module AND all my brake lines!!!! so now my car is f****d and everything has to be redone! well the guy told me that there MIGHT be a chance that if the master cylinder is put on and the brakes are bled heavily that it might be OK, but he highly doubts it. all of the rubber lines are going to have to be replaced. so thanks everyone that responded |
