Flat spots on tires?
Quick question for the tire experts. I am looking at storing one of my cars, and I have heard that you can get flat spots on your tires, if the car is left to sit without beeing moved. Is this fact, or fiction? If it is true, any tips on how to store a car that will keep the tires in good condition? Thanks.

My friend's father owns a warehouse that people store cars in, and there is an old '60 Grand Prix that's been in there for about 3 years. The tires have gone completely flat and are all worn out at the spot that the car has been sitting on. Other cars that haven't been there quite as long show no such problems. I don't know if those are just faulty tires or if it needs to be about 3 years before this will happen.

wouldn't the springs/shocks sag or something ?
If it is just for a few months fill the tires up to 10p.s.i. more than normal. |

I think it gets worse the softer the compound is on the tires, if you have Z-rated tires I would really think about putting the car jackstands if its going to set for long periods of time.. It may also help if you use thick pieces of carpet under the tires while it sits, but I would leave it like this for long periods of time... I doubt that it would prevent flat spots.. just increase the life alittle..

Put the car on stands.
We have a huge museum of old cars here and all the cars are on stands to stop this problem.
