Air Cond Recharge: Gauge not reading pressure-Do I need a special fitting, or what ?

Air Cond Recharge: Gauge not reading pressure-Do I need a special fitting, or what ?

My A/C is cooling, but wanted to see if it needs to be topped off.
Hooked up gauge to low pressure line on 2000 430CLK. Gauge is not reading any pressure.
Tested/connected gauge on 1997 BMW Z3. Gauge does not read pressure.
Tested/connected gauge to 1993 Jeep ZJ. Gauge reads good pressure.
Gauge reads pressure on American, but NOT on German cars.

So, is this a German thing?

Do I need some special fitting, or what?

Thanks

Note: All cars, CLK, Z3, are blowing cold air--have good a/c units.

93 jeep = R12
all others = r134a

the fittings are different.

On the clk,
with key on- set temp. controls to 72 on left and right, press the REST button and hold it for more than 6 seconds. When the display changes press the left auto button to change the number shown on the left. Press until the number 7 is displayed on the left- the number shown on the right will be your system pressure in BAR on the high side.

As long as the sensor is working correctly this is your pressure, with that said.. are you hooking up the the low side or the high side with your gauge? They are different in size.
