98 4x4 blazer cause of new rotor scoring?

Hello all,
This is my first post so bare with me.
Ok, my blazer had metal on metal noise on front passenger wheel.
I replaced the front pads but still had noise.Had the rotor replaced.
5 miles from the shop it started the loudest grinding noise you could imagine.Went back to shop they pull the rotor.lower edge on the back side of rotor is scored. They said its a bad rotor, too deep, go get it exchanged. And they will put it on again monday.
Does this sound right or do I have some kind of caliper, bracket problem?
Thanks any and all for any help.
