'03 ZX2 Catalytic Converter 49 vs. 50 state?

Have a huge chunk missing from the cat pipe, between the rear O2 sensor, and the cat. Planning on pulling the pipe, then pulling the two O2 sensors, then putting in a new cat pipe.

Appears that there's two versions, 49-state (no CA), and 50-state (CA). So for Walker, the 49-state is the 52284, and the 50-state is the 82673.

Yet... what's the difference between the two? Is there a significant difference, such as 1 vs. 2 O2 sensors, or is it something as mundane as you're paying for the CARB sticker?

Will check under-hood for a CA-sticker (we're in MI), yet hoping someone knows what the practical difference is, between the two. Thanks!

That's what I figured. This ZX2 has two O2 sensors, so I was worried that the number of O2 sensors was the issue. I say that, in that I have an early '90s vehicle that the difference between 49-state and 50-state, was 49-state was one O2, and 50 was 2 O2's. If it's just a CARB sticker, and it's registerd in MI, figure they'll stick with the 49-state. Thanks!

That url or part number doesn't take me anywhere (tried cut-and-paste).

I looked up that vehicle, directly, and the cat comes up as 52284, with the note "As of January 1, 2009, converters in this catalog can not be sold or installed in California.".

Ok, did the obvious... called Walker technical support. They state that the 49-state is physically compatible, the 50-state is stamped to warrant that it has gone through the CARB certification process. So a CA car in MI can physically use the 49-state unit. I'll go with that's an authoritative answer. ; )

Cali is REALLY strict about CARB approval. What he said doesn't surprise me.
