wouldn't count on a whole lot. you can get headers, intake, 4 bbl carb, dual exhaust (if you don't already have duals), some performance mufflers for fairly cheap at Summit but you won't see very much HP gains unless you swap the heads ($1000+), new cam, maybe stroke, bore, and relieve it... A good rule of thumb is the amount of power you can have is directly proportionate to the size of your bank account.

Re: 302

Check E-bay (don't count on cheap prices though, prices get jacked up during the last hours) or go to your local speed shop. I get really good bargains at me local speed shop, even better than Summit and Jegs at times. I picked up a complete used Holley 600 at my local speed shop for $25. It just needed a rebuild kit as most used ones you find.

Are you looking specificaly for horsepower, or for power you will feel in the seat of your pants. If that is what you want then buy new gears, stock ones usually run 270-310 if they are stock get some lower gears and you will feel it when you hit the gas, you will have a lower top speed, but man will you be able to feel it.

Re: 302

if you're gonna change your gears you'll want to consider an AOD or t-5 swap, neither of which can be done for only $500. not only will you lose top speed but your mileage will go down the crapper. I've heard of people going as steep as 3.75:1 with an AOD and 4.11:1 with the t-5 and still maintaining freeway driveability.

but none of that can be done for 5 bills...

Best bet is to try and get in good with the guy who owns your local Ford or Speed shop.

You dont have to consider a aod or t-5 i just put 462:1 gears in my mustang with a 302 that doesnt run very good, my top speed is 90, and I lost 2 miles to the gallon, but it is the biggest difference i have felt. So with 411 or 375 you shouldn't have problems. It only taked an hour to swap so when I want to go on a road trip i switch back to my old 272 gears.

Re: 302

wow...just...wow...

with a stock c4 I wouldn't go anything steeper than 3.83:1...even then you'd have to try a new torque converter...

It is a stock c-4 that was rebuilt with all stock componets, and the regular sized torque converter. So far it has ran fine, and i played with the trani a little and it shifts at pretty high rpm whether i rap it up or not. You right though I was worried about the c-4 being able to handle htose gears, but it is doing just fine.

Re: 302

I recently put a new 4 barrel carb, and cold air intake on my 302. That added a significant amount of horse power and it wasnt that much $$. Also duel exhaust helps.

Re: 302

69 mach 1: What car did you do this on? I can all but guarantee a carb and a CAI didn't add too much power unless you also did some sort of head and exhaust work.
