Re: 911 Turbo '88 [Singer Style]
Modifications never end, in fact they become more demanding. I worked on the rest of the wheel arches and mainly on the front bumper. The black "filet" in front of the hood was deleted and the bumper was leveled. Sanding and working on the area that connects the front bumper and the rest of the body is the trickiest one. Plus the fact that I have to re-engrave the panel line. I primed the car once because it was difficult to work on a surface with multiple colors of putties and cyanoacrylate as well as reveal the flaws (which are many).
I gave more depth to the panel lines as well as around the window frames. The "not engraved" side for comparison. Tail lights were cut as the centre part is glued and will be painted with body color. The "menu" consists of creating the panel lines for the front bumper, correct the many flaws, reshape a little the wheel arches as well as the engine cover. I also don't like the panel lines in this area, they seem too wide and not straight. I'm thinking of resetting them. By no means the kit is ready for paint as it needs many corrections. Nevertheless, there is a first shape! That's all for now. Thanks for watching! |

Re: 911 Turbo '88 [Singer Style]
Good progress.
I also want to make the original Singer in future. I just have bought a Fujimi's Porsche 911 73' Carrera RS for this purpose. http://www.ebay.com/itm/151425258564...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT |

Re: 911 Turbo '88 [Singer Style]
@stratos75
It's the most appropriate kit if you want to depict an actual Singer Porsche. In my case I wanted the challenge of trying to implement as much style approaches and philosophy of the company in another Porsche model. I would like to try an actual depiction in the future as well as see your WIP when the time comes, (i'd love to). Now that I take a closer look at the photos I'm thinking of separating the front bumper completely to work more freely on the car's lines. This way I will be able to align both the chassis and the bumper perfectly and achieve crisper edges even if it adds more time. I prefer this better than working in the closed curves, trying to scribe lines that will be "approximately". Tomorrow I hope I will have an update! |

Re: 911 Turbo '88 [Singer Style]
I am so excited about this. I wanted to build one myself, but didn't know how to go about it. I will be saving this WIP. Please keep it coming...
BTW, which epoxie are you using? Any idea on the color yet? I'm tempted to highjack your WIP by building along with you haha

Re: 911 Turbo '88 [Singer Style]
Thanks a lot! You are most welcome to join for a simultaneous build if you like!
I use the two part epoxy putty by Tamiya. Very fine stuff that sticks firmly and is sanded like a charm. The color combo I'm thinking of is this: |

@rallymaster
I hope the result will live up to the expectations. Thanks for your kind words! @Mikezibit Your project is very beautiful. I'm thinking of investing in it in the future. Is it some sort of a transkit? |

Re: 911 Turbo '88 [Singer Style]
Thanks everyone.
After working on the front bumper separately I finally re-attached it to the body and I'm happy I made this decision as the overall look is more precise. It was intentionally glued slightly towards the passenger cabin for a more classic look and this means I will work again on the fenders to match its new position. I modified what will be the black plastic "filet" in order to be more to the inside than same as the whole bumper. Panel lines in the engine hood are reset and will be rescribed. It's a dirty job but someone has to do it! When modifying something you usually have to recalibrate all the rest to match it so the process is slow. That's why I prefer small and regular updates. Thanks for watching! |

Re: 911 Turbo '88 [Singer Style]
Another small update.
The engine cover lines were re-scribed and I worked on the wheel arches to eliminate the big side surface (compared to the real one). In order to do that I lowered the ride height, sanded the arches even more and then, with a hobby knife, I aligned the upper lines to match the new shape of the arches. It is still in progress. Before: After: Other than that I'm working on the front bumper and make the final corrections/detailing. I'm so in love with the car's shape... Next update will be after all work is done and the final coat of primer is on. Thanks for watching! |

Re: 911 Turbo '88 [Singer Style]
Last mods consisted of engraving the panel line around the windshield for more realism and facilitate the painting procedure. Initially the (to become) chrome stripe was barely higher than the panel level. Better work for 2 hours and paint for 5 minutes than work for 5 minutes and paint for 2 hours.
I also corrected the size and shape of the engine cover as it was bigger than the real one. Last but not least I re-engraved and prolonged all panel lines where necessary in order to match the new look. So I present you the final shape! The gray primer was sanded and then I used the white one. Some minor imperfections were found and once satisfied I will repeat the process for the colour to follow. It will be an Ivory White. Now that I look it again it reminds me of a Panzer IV in winter camouflage. Shall I proceed with some chipping and weathering...? Thanks for watching! |
