Considering Upgrading to Bigger Rims
Hey all, I'm new here but I have a quick question. I've been considering upgrading to larger rims on my 2002 TC. I believe that the stock size is 16" and I've been thinking of anywhere from 18-20". I want to upgrade simply because it will look better, however I was wondering what sorts of performance effects this will have. I have heard different things about larger wheels affecting acceleration, ride quality, handling, etc. However, probably the best thing about these cars, as you all know, is their ride. So if putting larger wheels on messes this up, then I don't think I will change anything. Thanks everyone!

Re: Considering Upgrading to Bigger Rims
2002 TC is a nice car!
I would rather spend money on routine maintenance , or a date! Check to see if you can put both on a schedule. Nice rims may look good, but consider COP magnet,or drive by shooting suspect. How much do nice rims + tires cost ? $2k MCGIVER Last edited by danielsatur; 03-24-2009 at 09:56 PM. |

Re: Considering Upgrading to Bigger Rims
Please excuse Macgiver, hes the local idiot. Yes teh things you heard will affect the cars ride and acceleration. The bigger the tire, the slower it will go. As far as handling, it will loose turning radius, b/c teh car was designed for a 16 in, not a 22 for example. Not to mentioned that there really isn't a whole lot of room for those rims. If your looking for a set of rims, I would go with the size thats already on there that way you can re use the old tires as well. Hope this clears things up.
Also, I just put a set on my 95LTC, I went down a size from a 16 to a 15. Havn't noticed a difference...

Re: Considering Upgrading to Bigger Rims
Haha I never thought of it that way but maybe it would attract legal attention... if it's going to mess up my ride I think maybe you're right I should keep them the size they are.

Re: Considering Upgrading to Bigger Rims
Like I said, I have rims, with out the cops bothering me. Macgiver is just trying to cover his butt from my last post. Just keep your normal rim size and you will be ok..
