Senna McLaren

I'm building this one straight out of the box, but changing up the colors (compared to the instruction call outs) to match some versions I found online.
First up was to paint the single piece monocoque semi-gloss black then gloss black for the cockpit area. I used TS-29 and LP-1.

I build quite a bit out-of-the-box. But many of them can't be shared here because they were for Scale Auto and Fine Scale Modeler magazines.

Re: Senna McLaren

The LP-1 Black (thinned with Tamiya lacquer thinner) checked and crazed over the TS-29 as it dried overnight. (The TS-29 was shot 24 hours before the Gloss Black.) Not the first time I've used this paint, but the first time something less than good resulted.

So I sanded it out and reshot with decanted TS-14 and had no adverse reaction.

Re: Senna McLaren

I also painted the other gloss black body parts at the same time I repainted the roof section.

Re: Senna McLaren

These are the body parts that will be shot white. (I'm doing the end plates of the rear spoiler in the accent color.)

Re: Senna McLaren

The calipers are called out to be the same color as the body accent pieces, but I thought the photos of the real car in the instructions indicated otherwise. I liked the anodized look so I used TS-54, TS-17 and TS-72 to get close enough.

Re: Senna McLaren

The engine is engineered "without parts count escalating excessively", and I'm sure when it's under the glass it will look fine.

Re: Senna McLaren

I started painting the seats to match the photos of a real one I found. TS-53 and TS-23 both mixed with Dullcote.

Re: Senna McLaren

Thanks!

The chassis builds up very quickly once all the painting is done. The fit is still excellent so far.

I went the accent color for the parking brake calipers.
