All SW's, SW1's, SL's, SL1's, and SC1's are limited to about 100 mph.
All SL2's and SW2's are limited to about 110 mph. All SC2's are limited to 124 mph. (I am not sure about the governors on the L-series, the VUE, or the ION) I understand the reason behind this is the tire ratings. For example, the SC2's tires have an 'H' rating, meaning they can safely travel at speeds up to 130 mph. If they are going more than 130 mph, there is a risk that they might explode due to the increased centrifugal force. If you have a domestic car - obviously you do because you own a Saturn - with an OBDII system in it (model years 1996 & up) than I believe you can buy a product that you can plug into your vehicle to adjust some of the vehicle's settings (fuel mixture, shift points, TOP SPEED, etc.). Just do a search on your web browser for OBDII, or OBD2. |

yep 110 on mine. It is a 1997 Twink Am. I bought it off my buddy who would get frustrated when I would blow him away and get to about 125plus in my TDI jetta. I got this thing for a steal and love it. My son just brought it home with oil and water dripping out the bottom. I have driven it 10000 miles, he has driven it 30.

Re: What can i do to get rid of the govener on my Saturn?
I apologize for misleading you, but as of yet there is nothing on the market to disable the speed governor on a saturn. I've seen products being sold that will disable the speed governor on Civics, Camaros, Mustangs, and several other cars, but not Saturns (I couldn't find any, anyway). However, I have heard of Saturn owners being able to somehow hack into the PCM and disable it that way. The only other way would be to install a stand alone fuel system, but that would cost big bucks.
As to the oil & water dripping out the bottom: The first thing I would check would be the head gasket (usually the main culprit in S-series cars leaking oil). But oil and water? Also, earlier SL2's that came from the factory with H-rated tires had a top speed of 124mph. |

Re: What can i do to get rid of the govener on my Saturn?
www.saturnspeed.com go to the message forum and under the heading Technical I believe the section is called Hacks, Tweeks and Workarounds there is a guy on there that takes your Eeprom chip and reprograms the fuel cutoff and rev limiter to your specs.

Re: What can i do to get rid of the govener on my Saturn?
I have a 97' SW2. The speed limiter is 113mph technicaly. However the car itself will obviously go faster if heading downhill. The rev limiter only limits in Park and Neutral. I belive the manual does not limit rev.

On my Saturn Ion, I have no rev limiter. It only limited me to 4000 for the first 50 miles after I got the car, but after that, i can take it to the red line.
The governer on my car doesn't let me go over about 111 mph. I haven't done any mods to it, but b/c it is manual and the gear ratio is good, the car is quite zippy. I just wish it had better tires and rear-wheel drive. |
