2004 ram 1500 4.7 overdrive and idle issues
i recently have noticed my 2004 4.7 2 wheel drive quad cab having a wierd idle and od problems. it seems as the idle will go between 900 and 1200 rpm at idle only pausing at each for a few seconds then switching to the other. then i noticed that at freeway speeds the rpm will switch between 2000 and 2500, POSSIBLY in and out of overdrive but not sure, while driving on a flat surface! no extra loads on the engine! ive used brakekleen on the engine to check for vacuum leaks and there are non that i can detect! any ideas before i take it in and spend a couple hundred bucks on a repair that might be something simple??

I hear you can test for vacuum leaks with a vacuum gauge. there is an Hg. reading for each motor to compare with. Honestly I would clean up the IAC and the MAF. Are you getting any CEL codes?
Sounds like a vacuum leak to me too |

Re: 2004 ram 1500 4.7 overdrive and idle issues
ill try cleaning the mass airflow sensor and the idle air control valve! but using the brakekleen is like adding extra gas to the engine through a vacuum leak and the idle should bump up if you spray it on the vacuum leak! this did not happen so it must be something else!! also there are not codes present!
