What are the quirks of a 1986 Camry?
I just bought a 1986 Camry Sedan so I can learn to drive stick shift and I have a few questions. What grade of oil does it take and how many quarts?
Are there any quirks these vehicles have I should be aware of since I know zilch about Toyotas. I like the horn on this car and the tone was a total surprise since I was expecting something more like a Beetle horn. Turns out the front doors have to be locked with a key which is a neat feature. I wish Toyota had the common sense to put tachometers in their cars, but oh well. |

Re: What are the quirks of a 1986 Camry?
I used to own an 86 Camry DX 5 speed. This is probably what you have since you said it didn't have a tach. The DX was a base model so it didn't come with the tach. The LE model did have a tach. The manual stated 4.2 quarts of 10W-30 oil, although I would only fill it up with 4 quarts. Most oil filters available today are a bit smaller than what came from the factory when the car was new. I would fill it with 4 quarts, start the engine and after about 30 sections shut it down. Wait 10 or 15 minutes and then check the oil. Chances are it will read full with just the 4 quarts.
No quirks that I can think of with this car. Good luck with it. Mike |
