Hesitation above 2k RPM

2001 Grand AM Gt
125,000 miles
Recently changed:
Plugs, wires, O2 sensor, air filter, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator
Cheked TPA sensor, working within specs

My car has been hesitating when accelerating above 2000 rpms and up. The tach will just move very slow up even when pressing the gas more than needed. Also when on the freeway using cruise control, when going up a small incline, the cruise will have to push the pedal down quite far and the car does not go much faster. At that point it usually will have to downshift (to 3400 rpm) to get the power to keep the set cruise speed.

So, I am thinking I may have a plugged fuel filter (but i recently changed) or possibly a bad catalytic converter.

Could a MAF sensor be the culprit>?
I don't have any error lights on the dash showing.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Hesitation above 2k RPM

It turns out it was the catalytic converter for anyone who is having similar issues.

I am looking into replacements and there are many listed on parts sites. Most are listed as universal. Could there be problems with attaching the downstream O2 sensor? Anyone make a straight pipe? j/k

Thanks,

Re: Hesitation above 2k RPM

Your best bet would be to goto a muffler shop locally and checking on prices(check cat prices on line too). You have to cut your old Converter out and weld in the new one.
Should be able to find one for around $150 + about the same for install, depending on your geographical location.

A straight pipe would make your SES light come on and probly waste gas.... dont need that these days!

What kinda sucks is you were just over the extended Converter warranty GM extended.
