Question Heater problem

I just bought a 1993 jeep cherokee a few weeks ago and the heat worked fine but then after about a week it would only work every once in a while. Now it keeps telling me there is and error and it only blows out cold air. Is it the thermostat????? I need it fixed soon its getting kind of cold .

Re: Heater problem

do you have a water temp. gauge on the dash? It would only be the thermastat if the engine is not getting up to temp. Try holding on to both the heater hoses where they go into the firewall when it is up to temp. , are they both warm?

Question Re: Heater problem

Where are the heater hoses located do I have to open the hood or can I get to them from inside the truck.....??? I don't know very much about jeeps. It gets up to temp pretty quickly and when it was working the heat came out great. What could any other possibilitys be besides the thermostat?

Re: Heater problem

Open the hood and you'll see something like this:

See the silver tubes that stick out just in front of the long black valve cover? The heater hoses will be attached there, and run together to your left when viewed from the front of the vehicle - passenger side - of the valve cover, then turn and go to the firewall.

Re: Heater problem

*The heater hoses are all under the hood.

*You mentioned error message, where is that displayed? (That is why I asked if it was a Grand, which has a different heat/climate control system.)

Re: Heater problem

Its a grand cherokee and its all digital and on the heat control panel you can select the exact heat degree but when I start it up about 30 seconds or so after it says ER. But I'll take a look under the hood and see what I find.

That is what I thought....there is actually a Grand Cherokee fourm...if you don't mind, I am going to move your post over there and maybe someone can help you identify your problem better.
