Tranny Tick
I have a 90 Camaro with a 700r4. I installed a brand new 700r4 and torque converter today. Everything is perfect with it except one thing...somewhere between the*torque*converter*and*flywheel*is a ticking noise. You can only hear it while under load...either in reverse or drive and at low RPMs or at a stop. As soon as you put it in park or neutral it disappears or after you get your speed/rpm's up. Also, there wasn't any kind of ticking with the old tranny either. Could this be a torque converter or flywheel problem.? Its not an exhaust leak. The tranny and convertor are new from Monster Transmission. Idea's anyone???

Re: Tranny Tick
It's possible the flex plate is cracked....
with the tranny observation cover removed, use a pry bar to flex, the flex plate gently, when having someone MANUALLY rotate the crank bolt.... Hopefully you tightened all flex plate bolts equally in a pattern.... |

Re: Tranny Tick
I have remove and reseated the TC bolts several times even with a small shim just to make sure all was good there. I have visually inspeced the flywheel several times and found no cracks unless its somewhere around the bolt pattern. The flywheel has never been replaced for the entire 18 years ive had it. If a TC was bad would it tick only while under load? Is there a way to bench test a TC? According to Monster there is but Im not so sure. Ive repoaced this tranny several with no issues like this. Im gonna drop it tomorrow so the more input I can get the better my chances of tracking it down. Thanks guys!!!

Re: Tranny Tick
Ill see if I can get a sound clip for u guys.. today I replaced the flywheel and replaced the starter...it looked like it might have been hitting it. After all that....didnt change a thing. If the tranny was just slighly out of alignment from the flywheel....would that cause that tick?

Re: Tranny Tick
For anyone having the same problem...it turned out to be the torque converter. I swapped it out with another that Monster sent me and the clicking quit.
