4L60E Automatic Transmission Interchangeability

2001 Blazer ZR2 4x4; I haven't given up on the manual swap, but I'd like to throw an auto in just to get it moving for the near future. Can't seem to find a consensus on what transmissions are compatible... Wrecker says only 2001 from Jimmy 4x4/Blazer 4x4/Astro AWD/Safari AWD will work, but I've heard others say any 2000+ from a 4x4 will work, and even 98/99 will work. Any advice would be appreciated, as I could pick one up much cheaper than the wreckers if I can guarantee compatibility.

The salvage yard interchange book knows best.
It says what is direct fit witrh no change.
It Also tells if anything else will or what has to be changed to get it to work.

Re: 4L60E Automatic Transmission Interchangeability

Thanks again for the reply MT.

Unfortunately my local wreckers haven't been overly helpful with me. A friendly fellow from the local classifieds has told me that a 2WD tranny could be made compatible by swapping the tail shaft... can anyone confirm or deny this? I can't afford to spend the cash right now on an experiment. Thanks!

Ye it can be done.
But you have to take the transmission completley apart to do it.

You might as well fix your old one or get the right transmission for it.
