Fuel issue on my 2001 GMC Jimmy

Maybe someone can help me here. We started having a missing issue and so we changed the fuel filter and looked at the codes. Said we had a bad crank and cam sensor so we replaced them. Still had a slight miss to it. We had already changed the fuel pump when we rebuilt the engine. Then the truck died and had to be towed home. So we have now also change the coil pack with ECM and the distributor. At that point it would still only act like it would start but not start. We checked the fuel pressure. It is showing 60 PSI. Which is what the manufacturer states it should be. We read a post that talked about the spider injection system and the fuel pump relay so we replaced the relay and tried. Same. Then we went today and got a set of spider injectors and a replacement fuel pressure regulator. Still have the same issue. So we are lost now. List of what we have done, new fuel pump, fuel filter, spider injectors, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump relay, new distributor, new coil and ECM. There is nothing else we can think of. OH YEAH, it does run with carb cleaner being sprayed into it. So we know it is more than likely a fuel issue but have replaced all the fuel parts. So what else can it be? If you have had this same issue or know how to figure this out, please let me know. I can't afford to take it to a shop. 1 LAST THING all the codes are clear now on my home tester. HELP ME PLEASE.

Since you've already spent alot of $$, and you won't pay to take it to someone who maybe could fix it, I would suggest spending a bit more from this site.

Good luck to you.

Re: Fuel issue on my 2001 GMC Jimmy

Not that I don't want to take it to a dealer to fix it, it's the fact I don't have any money left to do that after a complete engine overhaul 2000 miles ago and then this happened. I am buying parts weekly as I get money now. I don't have the money to take it, much less pay $30 for a site to try and tell me that may not be able to help me either. So I am here to see if anyone has ideas what to do next. Thanks for the idea tho.

Are the injectors firing? Do they even have 12V? You may have to probe into the injector harness to see if the 12V supply is at the injector connector, and if the PCM is pulsing the ground side of the injectors.

Depending on your electrical skills. Go to Auto Zone or Advanced Auto and get a loaner noid light. Check that the light blinks when cranking.

When you replaced the Distributor, did you use an AC Delco Distributor Cap?

Re: Fuel issue on my 2001 GMC Jimmy

Let's get something straight here............

The car cranks over but doesn't fire.......

But it will start if you spray carb cleaner into the intake?

When you stop spraying it dies? If yes, then if you have at least 60 psi, then it looks like the injectors are not firing or they are restricted...

Also, did you replace the fuel filter?

Re: Fuel issue on my 2001 GMC Jimmy

Thought I should let everyone know. We had put a new crank sensor in. Car was running good then this issue. Right! After all this bull crap, my son put the old crank sensor back in the car and now it runs again. The new sensor went bad. We replaced it originally because the code said it was bad. It still says it is bad now but at least it runs. Thanks everyone for your input.

Yet another instance of a new part out of the box being sub-standard. Thank you , NAFTA. And thank you, Mr. Clinton.

Re: Fuel issue on my 2001 GMC Jimmy

This doesn't make sense.......you said, the car would not start.....but it would run with carb cleaner....in order for it to run with carb cleaner, the crank sensor has to send a good signal to the PCM, which receives this signal, and in turn, then triggers the ICM.....if there was no crank signal, there would be no spark, and it wouldn't run when carb cleaner was sprayed.....
