04 Mazda 6 wagon hard 2-3 shift

Recently bought an '04 Mazda 6 sportwagon that runs great except for a shift issue. At a low rpm the 2-3 upshift is extremely hard... third gear just bangs into gear with a violence that on more than one occasion made me look in the mirror to make sure I was not hit from behind?

Courious as to lack of response... am I the only one that has run into this issue?
