DEXTER Models / Blue Stuff

Hi,

Like many other craftsmen, I think it's better to create a topic dedicated for speak about my work.

After great news from kbx about Rudge wheels and luggage for Tamiya's 300SL (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul....php?t=1142044 ), I'm working on "plaid decals" for seats.

Above, this is a first work, not definitive.
Sheet on the top contains usual colours (but not official ) seen on some restored cars.
The second sheet contains the three official colours available on 300SL catalogue.
I hope start the print session soon.

Thanks for your interest !

Like said on kbx's topic by Crater Cruncher, some decals for dashboard and hubcaps would be helpful.

Here, the first design of the dashboard, ready to check size on Tamiya part.
Choice of colours is not easy...

You said you'd be doing a clear part or vinyl decal for masking?

Re: DEXTER Models / Blue Stuff

To BVC500 :

Dashboard is too small and intricate to apply masks.
For the moment I work to do the drawings as precise as possible. Final products will be only decals.

Like said on kbx's topic, special colours are a trap, because they are very difficult to match with paint used by the builder on the main body.
So, I think to put on the sheet only basic colours like silver, white, black and red.

For special colours (metallics, ivory,...), I study the option to use clear or white decals as bases for custom paint.
If idea is interesting, I must check if decals could resist to several layers of paint and varnish.
Will they be usable after all this paint job ?...I don't know.

Re: DEXTER Models / Blue Stuff

Decals for hubcaps are ok. Here, a quick test with laser printed decals:

Same thing with seats just for fun, because colours are not definitive and result is ugly on the grey plastic:

And the choice of colours for dashboard & hubcaps.
Little and cheap sheets for silver, black and red decals.
Pink is varnish of the decal.

And a separate sheet for custom painting decals.
For them, I study a solution to make a white decal without varnish ( a kind of white varnish in fact).
First tests of painting decals works good with TS Paint.
It's not easy to do and requires some skills...Recommended to experienced modelers !
Soon I will do some test with Zero paint.

Re: DEXTER Models / Blue Stuff

Dear Bob,

when I saw your article I just had to remember for a pic which I´ve done inside the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart.

Inside a Glas Cabinet I saw a pattern card for the interior trim and upholstery of the MB 190 SL and the MB 300 SL......

Have a look...

Re: DEXTER Models / Blue Stuff

Excellent news, and any chance on older reissues? Like the ducati wheels and decals?

Re: DEXTER Models / Blue Stuff

To MidMazar :

Marchesini 5 spoke wheels will not be reissued.
The main reason is because masters of wheels were accidentally destroyed by the resin caster...
So, if I have time to redo masters, it will be more interesting to make a complete 916 SBK T/kit. (I love this bike !)
For the moment, other projects are in progress.

Re: DEXTER Models / Blue Stuff

HONDA NSR500 Elf 1989 will be available soon as a full T/kit for Hasegawa 1/12 Kit.

Masters of parts are still in progress (PVM wheels, seat cushion, spacers for calipers, front mud guard,...)
But it's already possible to buy only decals at a smooth price.
